phpMyAdmin is a tool written in PHP intended to handle the administration of MySQL over the Web. Currently it can create and drop databases, create/drop/alter tables, delete/edit/add fields, execute any SQL statement, manage keys on fields.
Welcome to this first beta for phpMyAdmin 2.8.0. The jump from 2.7.0 to 2.8.0 is partly because from now on, versions with the same X.Y number will have the same feature set, while the third number will be for bug fixes.
